This project challenges traditional cartographic methods of understanding the city by privileging narrative, interpretation, and lived experience over conventional forms of representation. Centered on Accra, Ghana, the work draws from a wide range of sources—news articles, books, food, podcasts, music, and poetry—to construct a layered and nuanced reading of the city. Our understanding was deepened by a week-long visit, where we engaged directly with local artists and immersed ourselves in the civic and cultural fabric of the place. The project grapples with critical questions: How can we design in places where we are culturally and geographically distant? What does it mean to map through memory, emotion, and exchange? Presented as a first edition, this work proposes a new methodology—one that embraces uncertainty, dialogue, and the poetics of place.
