"Quiet Departures" is a deeply personal work that grapples with the weight of inheritance—both genetic and emotional. Painted during a time of reckoning with my own health, this piece reflects the moment I discovered I had a tumor, and the parallel grief of losing my father to a brain tumor years before. The layered brushstrokes and vivid colors oscillate between presence and disappearance, memory and immediacy. Two figures emerge—quietly connected yet suspended—conveying the intimacy of shared experience and the silent gaps left by loss. This painting sits within my larger practice of exploring how we carry the histories, emotions, and materials passed down to us. It asks how we hold space for transformation, how we mark our departures, and how we keep returning to the places—physical or emotional—that shape us.
